This is a rather embarrassing story but one that should be shared with all women out there.
Some of you ladies probably shave around your bikini area. Hey, I did too. But I just wanted to share that really bad things can happen from this. For the past week I have been in and out of Urgent Care and the E.R. due to an ingrown hair that became irritated and ultimately infected.
Now, I have gotten ingrown hairs in that area before and they never became a problem. But this week has been the most nightmarish week of my entire life!
To make a story short and less disgusting, the ingrown hair started from a small little speck, to the size of a Half Dollar. It ended up turning into a boil which made it impossible to sit, stand, sleep, or walk without screaming out in pain. The abscess was full of blood and puss. (See, I told you it is disgusting). I had to go to urgent care because I couldn't take the pain any more. They made two small incisions, told me to take antibiotics because it will be draining.
The next morning I awoke in a fever. The area became even more painful than the time before the urgent care visit. I had to call the urgent care in tears because of all the pain I was in. I ended up going back and they told me that the incisions they made had already closed up. They tried touching the infected area but just one little touch had me screaming out in bloody murder. The urgent care doctor said that there was nothing they could do for me since I was in that amount of pain. So he transfered my paperwork to the hospital.
Once arriving to the hospital, I was shaking with chills and sweats. I was super dehydrated and just in so much pain it was unbearable. Once I was seen in the room, the doctor came in and had to numb the infected area. The pain was unbelievable! I was screaming so loud that three nurses had to come in, close the door, and hold my hand. I was crying the hardest I ever cried before. More and More numbing shots stuck me and I felt like I was going to pass out from all the pain. He cut a larger incision and and to clear all the icky stuff from the wound.
Once it was all over, I vowed to never shave my bikini line again. It is not worth the pain of an ingrown hair. Never again do I want to feel that pain. The nurse gave me a strong pain killer shot, which ended up getting me extremely sick to my stomach, so I was vomiting the whole way home. So one thing after another. The antibiotics make me too nauseous to function, and make me extremely sensitive to sunlight. Which really sucks since I live in the Southern California Desert.
The lesson learned here will to for now on use cream hair removers, waxing, or save up to get my hair removed by laser. I have a scar that will always remind me of the pain. It was a very invasive procedure and it will take me awhile to forget about that day in the Emergency Room.
I wanted to share this with others so that they don't have to go through what I did. It is not fun and I don't wish that pain on anybody.
